The Central Processing Unit (CPU) Operator performs various functions within the Computer Room. Note that the Operations Group is on a 24X7 schedule.
Personal Computer (PC) & mainframe responsibilities are:
- Runs scheduled applications/jobs, transits files to banks/others, processesreports, including cold storage, and communicates with users/programmers/vendors as appropriate
- Sends timely emails to/from users while running critical processes
- Performs mainframe Initial Program Loader (IPLs) and Data Facility Hierarchical Storage Manager (DFHSM) backups
- NetBackup: Daily monitoring of system-wide backups, documents/coordinates daily tape off-site rotations, runs requested restores
Facilities responsibilities are:
- Monitors all equipment within and around Computer Room, including servers, network, mainframe, printers, Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS)/generators, air conditioners, power, and more
Clerical responsibilities are:
- Answers phone for calls relating to Operations, Help Desk, IS issues, and citizen issues
- Maintains IS Vehicle Log
- Receives daily mail deliveries and notifies/tracks recipients
CPU Operator Competencies:
- Ability to processes biweekly and monthly payroll checks. Transmits monies such as payroll, pension, and credit union funds to banks via Internet. Also, performs other PC file downloads
- Experience with printing Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR)checks and folding/sealing equipment
- Proficient in creating/updating operating procedures and manuals. Analyzes instructional routines thoroughly to ensure that the intended product is produced
- Experience in monitoring network and system components (Unix/Windows)
- Experience with Veritas NetBackup System
- Experience with Xerox HLT155 printer using FreeFlow & Elixir software
- Expert knowledge of IBM mainframe computer and Beta42 Scheduler
The Mainframe Programmer will provide technical leadership, analysis and design. The Programmer will analyze problems and enhancement requests and produce estimates and specification documents. The Programmer will develop stored procedures with COBOL programs and perform detail program design; write program specifications, code and test
Mainframe Programmer Competencies:
- Highly proficient in the use of COBOL, COBOLII, DB2, Information Management System (IMS), , Virtual Sequential Access Method (VSAM), Time Sharing Option/Interactive System Productivity Facility (TSO/ISPF), Multiple Virtual Storage Job Control Language (MVS JCL), IBM utilities as well as many other mainframe specialized software programs
The MVS Systems Programmer will be responsible for administrating z/OS mainframe(s), operating systems software including z/OS/MVS, Virtual Telecommunications Access Method (VTAM), Resource Access Control Facility (RACF), TSO/ISPF, Data Facility Hierarchical Storage Manager (DFHSM), Data Facility Removable Media Manager (DFRMM) system utilities, mainframe logical partitions (LPAR’s). The Programmer will install, test and implement mainframe system software and hardware components while maintaining a stable operating system environment for business applications. The Programmer will also provide technical support to Computer Operations.
MVS Systems Programmer Competencies:
- Expert knowledge of z/OS internals, Host Controller Device (HCD), System Modification Program/Extended (SMP/E), Interactive Problem Control System (IPCS), JES(Job Entry Subsystem)2, TSO/E, Interactive System Productivity Facility/Program Development Facility (ISPF/PDF), JCL, Language Environment (LE), IDCAMS, VSAM, Storage Management Subsystems(SMS), and should also have working knowledge of TCP/IP, VTAM. Ability to debug system software problems.
